When Starting a New Exercise… Don’t Make This Mistake
Redefined Yoga | AUG 11, 2025
NEVER rush into challenging moves just to prove you can still “do it like you used to.”
That’s a fast track to frustration … and pain.
Because it shifts the focus away from where it needs to be …
YOU.
Instead of chasing the hardest version of an exercise, start with the safest version so you can:
Learn the movement step-by-step.
Build confidence in your body.
Feel exactly where your stability comes from.
This is how you wake up your stability muscles and bring your natural movement blueprint back online.

When you start with low resistance (or even no resistance), you give your body space to integrate these principles:
Anchor from the ground up — create stability in your feet before moving.
Activate your center — keep your core working with you, not against you.
Move in control — no jerky motions, no momentum.
Maintain your balance — if you can’t hold it, you don’t own it.
Groove these into your nervous system until they become automatic.
That’s when you’re ready to safely add more challenge — and enjoy it.
"I had been going to physical therapy for many months with only temporary relief. Since adopting Brian’s functional yoga practice, I’ve not had any pain in almost a year. I’m stronger, my balance is solid, my posture is better. Over 50 can mean strong and functional." — Jean
"Before Redefined Yoga, I felt a bit delicate — like I was one manual task away from wrecking my back. Then they trained me how to use all the joints of my body properly, especially my back. Now I feel empowered. I can pick up a package, move furniture … whatever — I’m ready!" — Tom
This approach improves joint stability, posture, and mobility … and it works without over-stretching or overloading your joints.
That means less pain and more freedom in everyday life.
