How I Became A Back Pain Expert

Life can throw sudden challenges at us, and sometimes, these challenges can shape our destinies in unexpected ways.
For me, it all began when I was about 10 years old, with a seemingly minor injury—a sprained ankle.
Little did I know this incident would set the stage for a lifelong battle with chronic back pain.
Over the course of 45 years, I embarked on a personal journey to become an expert in managing and alleviating my chronic back pain.
Here’s my story of resilience, self-discovery, and the techniques I've learned to overcome this persistent condition without resorting to pain medications or surgery.
It all started with a sprained ankle during a carefree walk in the park. Truly, I was walking in a state park in South Florida and my left ankle “rolled” over a rock.
While it seemed like a minor mishap at the time, this event marked the beginning of my journey with pain.
As I hobbled around, I didn't realize the altered gait and uneven weight distribution would lead to a functional leg length discrepancy.
A functional leg length discrepancy means my legs are the same length. However, because of the way my left foot would collapse with each step, it seemed as if my left leg was longer.
Over time this made my right side get shorter and tighter while my left side was getting longer and weaker which led to …
Years passed, and I began to notice a growing discomfort in my lower back.
Visits to healthcare professionals revealed the unwelcome diagnosis of right convex lumbar scoliosis, a condition where the spine curves sideways.
If you were to stand in front of me and look at me with X-ray vision, you’d see that my lower back (the lumbar region) curves to my right instead of being vertical.
This condition was a direct consequence of my altered posture due to the leg length discrepancy.
Chronic low back pain became a constant companion in my life.
It seemed like a never-ending cycle of pain and discomfort. But I was determined not to let it define me or my future.
I was committed to finding a way out without resorting to pain medications or surgery.

20 years ago we didn’t have a lot of the resources available. We couldn’t search YouTube and sift through 1000s of video tutorials.
Back then we used bookstores, and libraries, and “picked” the brains of experts.
With that said …
I dove into research, reading books, and scientific articles, and seeking advice from experts in the field of back pain management.
With the information I gathered, I crafted a personalized plan tailored to my specific needs and pain triggers.
This plan included a combination of heightened awareness, spinal stability, and moving in ways that didn’t send me reeling in pain.
All of which I’ll share with you in a moment.
One of the key lessons I learned during my journey was the importance of consistency.
I religiously followed my daily routine, never missing a day, and gradually, I began to see improvements in my condition.
As I continued my journey, I encountered doubters and skeptics who questioned why I hadn't succumbed to bed rest, pain medications, or surgery.
But I knew that my approach was working, and my pain was gradually subsiding.
After years of dedication and self-discovery, I realized my experience could benefit others suffering from chronic back pain.
I decided to share my knowledge and techniques with the world through workshops, online platforms, and even one-on-one consultations.
My journey from a childhood injury to becoming an expert in back pain management has been a challenging yet fulfilling one.
